How to apply PhotoFlex decals

CUT
Cut out both both the decal and the white "slug" transfer. It is not necessary to trim the decal close to the edges unless you want to.

NOTE: The decal is printed on a continuous clear film and they must be cut from the sheet.

APPLY THE SLUG
Position the slug and transfer it onto the model by rubbing over carrier film with a burnishing tool.

Here I'm using a wooden cuticle pusher that has had a blunt point carved onto one end with a pencil sharpener and sandpaper. You can also use a dull #2 pencil or a commercially manufactured dry transfer burnisher.

PEEL BACK THE CARRIER FILM
Once the transfer has been rubbed down, carefully peel back the plastic carrier film and discard it.

BURNISH
Place the parchment backing paper over the transfer and rub over the slug to insure a firm bond.

WET THE DECAL
Place the decal in a small puddle of water and wait until it slides freely on the paper.

OOPS! Out of focus here but you get the idea.

WET THE MODEL
Apply a little water or Micro-Set to the area where the decal will go. You can add a little white glue to the water if you want, it will help eliminate voids under the decal that show up as "silvering".

APPLY DECAL
Carefully slide the decal off the paper onto the model.

ALIGN
Carefully align the decal over the white slug until there is none of the white slug visible.

BLOT
Very carefully wick away any excess water or setting solution without actually touching the decal until most of the water is removed. If the decal shifts out of position during this step, simply re-moisten and try again.

FINISH
Allow the decal to dry completely. If you see trapped air bubbles or silvering after the decal has dried take the point of a needle or #11 hobby blade and stab a bunch of holes through the decal (trust me) and apply Micro Sol or Solvaset setting solution over the entire decal. Allow this to dry completely and all of the imperfections should disappear.

Do not touch or handle the decal until it dries completely.
